Altera Unveils Agilex 3 FPGA Line at Innovators Day Conference

San Jose, CA – At the recent Innovators Day Conference, Altera, now an independent subsidiary of Intel, introduced its latest line of FPGAs, the Agilex 3 series. This event, formerly known as Intel FPGA Technology Day, showcased Altera’s commitment to advancing FPGA technology with a focus on performance, cost-efficiency, and power consumption.

The Agilex 3 series is designed for mid-range applications where performance is crucial, but cost and power efficiency are paramount. Some standout features include:

25K–135K Logic Elements: Offering a range of configurations to suit various application needs.

1.9X FPGA Fabric Performance: Enhanced by Altera’s Hyperflex architecture, which nearly doubles the performance over previous generations.

Integrated AI and MCU: The inclusion of AI capabilities and a dual-core Arm Cortex A55 processor enables real-time processing for applications like automotive and IoT devices.

Security Enhancements: Features such as bitstream encryption, authentication, and physical anti-tamper detection ensure robust security.

Low Power Consumption: Achieves up to 38% lower power consumption compared to competing FPGAs.

The Agilex 3 FPGAs are tailored for industries requiring high compute power within a constrained power footprint. This includes:

Industrial Manufacturing

Surveillance

Medical Devices

Test and Measurement

Edge Computing

The integration of AI and enhanced security features makes these FPGAs ideal for applications demanding real-time processing and robust protection against tampering.

Alongside the Agilex 3 series, Altera also announced updates to its Quartus Prime Design Software. This toolchain supports the latest devices and improves usability and compile times, further streamlining the development process for engineers.

Sandra Rivera, CEO of Altera, emphasized the importance of these advancements: “This series is for applications that are in industrial manufacturing, surveillance, medical, test and measurement, and edge computing, where you need, frankly, a lot of compute, but you don’t have the flexibility and headroom on power footprint that you would in a big data center”.

Altera’s introduction of the Agilex 3 FPGA line marks a significant step forward in FPGA technology, offering a blend of performance, efficiency, and security. As industries continue to demand more from their computing solutions, the Agilex 3 series stands ready to meet these challenges head-on.
