Infineon Technologies AG has announced the launch of the ID Key S USB, a cutting-edge USB security controller designed to enhance the security and versatility of USB tokens, dongles, security keys, and other hardware-based authentication devices. This new product expands Infineon’s ID Key family, delivering a compact, high-performance, and certified solution that meets the evolving needs of modern secure authentication.

The ID Key S USB integrates two critical components into a single system-in-package: Infineon’s SLC38 security controller for cryptographic processing and a USB bridge controller for device communication. This consolidation simplifies product designs by reducing the number of parts required and cutting down on the bill of materials and overall complexity.
Key specifications include:
- A 32-bit Arm SecureCore SC300 CPU, running at 100 MHz, offering robust processing power for cryptographic applications.
- 24 KB of RAM and 800 KB of non-volatile SOLID FLASH memory to store firmware, encryption keys, and multiple cryptographic applications securely.
- A small footprint with compact dimensions of 4 x 4 x 0.85 mm, ideal for space-constrained USB tokens and dongles.
- Certified to CC EAL 6+, one of the highest common criteria security certifications, and compliant with the FIPS 140-3 hardware standard, ensuring robust security assurances.
The ID Key S USB supports a broad suite of cryptographic functions essential to secure authentication and data protection:
- RSA encryption, up to 4096-bit keys.
- Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) up to 521-bit keys.
- AES encryption up to 256-bit strength.
- Hardware Random Number Generator (RNG).
- Legacy symmetric-key functions such as DES and 3DES.
These capabilities enable secure certificate-based authentication, FIDO (Fast Identity Online) protocols with device-bound passkeys, digital signatures, encryption for data confidentiality, access control, software protection, and cryptocurrency hardware wallets.
As the digital landscape faces increasing cybersecurity threats, including phishing, credential theft, and data breaches, the demand for hardware-backed secure authentication solutions has surged. The ID Key S USB answers this call by providing a secure and convenient method for identity verification and login, enhancing protection against hacking and unauthorized access. Maurizio Skerlj, Senior Vice President and Product Line Head, Authentication & Identity Solutions at Infineon’s Connected Secure Systems Division, emphasized the market shift: “With the ID Key S USB, we are well-positioned to address the growing trend toward more secured and convenient authentication methods, offering our customers a robust solution that meets their needs.”
