Microchip Unveils Ultra-Compact CAN FD SBC for Automotive and Industrial Applications

Chandler, Arizona – Microchip Technology has introduced the ATA650x CAN FD System Basis Chip (SBC), a groundbreaking solution designed to meet the growing needs of compact, high-performance applications in the automotive and industrial sectors.

The ATA650x series features a high-speed CAN FD transceiver combined with a 5V Low-Dropout Voltage Regulator (LDO), all within an exceptionally small footprint. Available in packages as small as 2 mm x 3 mm, these chips support data rates up to 5 Mbps, ensuring efficient and reliable communication.

Key highlights of the ATA650x SBC include its low power consumption, with a typical sleep current of just 15 µA, making it ideal for power-sensitive applications. Additionally, it offers robust safety features such as fail-safe, protection, and diagnostic functions, which ensure reliable bus communication in demanding environments.

Rudy Jaramillo, Vice President of Microchip’s Analog Power and Interface Division, remarked, “Our compact CAN FD SBC is engineered for space-constrained applications, addressing the critical need for resilience and efficiency. This highly integrated solution helps reduce board space requirements and simplifies design complexities for our customers.” The ATA650x CAN FD SBCs, part of Microchip’s extensive connectivity portfolio, are designed to operate in a wide temperature range from -40°C to +150°C and are AEC-Q100 qualified with a Grade 0 rating.
