In a landmark move that reshapes the Internet of Things (IoT) landscape, Nordic Semiconductor has acquired Memfault Inc., a leading cloud platform provider for connected product lifecycle management. Announced on June 24, 2025, this acquisition marks Nordic’s transformation from a hardware-centric company into a full-stack solution provider, offering integrated hardware, software, and cloud services.

Memfault, known for its robust device observability, diagnostics, and secure over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities, has long been a trusted partner to Nordic. By bringing Memfault fully into the fold, Nordic aims to deliver the industry’s first complete chip-to-cloud platform—a unified solution that simplifies development, accelerates time-to-market, and ensures long-term product reliability.
“This acquisition is a declaration of intent,” said Vegard Wollan, CEO of Nordic Semiconductor. “Together, we enable thousands of customers to continuously interact with millions of devices in the field”. The integration of Memfault’s cloud services into Nordic’s nRF Cloud platform will empower developers to manage connected devices more efficiently, especially as edge AI and evolving cybersecurity regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act reshape the IoT ecosystem.
The deal, valued at $120 million, is being financed through a mix of cash reserves and a $110 million bridge loan facility. Notably, Memfault’s founding team will reinvest a portion of their proceeds into Nordic shares, signaling strong confidence in the combined company’s future.
With this acquisition, Nordic Semiconductor is not just expanding its portfolio—it’s setting a new standard for how connected products are built, deployed, and maintained. The message is clear: the future of IoT is integrated, intelligent, and insight-driven.
